When to have a baby shower

Learn a little about When to have a baby shower...

For many women, pregnancy is the most thrilling time of life. It is a miraculous time filled with wonder and anticipation. Pregnancy can also be a time of anxiety and uncertainty. Babies need so many things. Where will the money come from to get them?

Fortunately, society has come up with away to help new mothers (and fathers) out with this dilemma. It’s called a baby shower.

A baby shower is gathering of friends and family for the purpose of providing new parents with all the essentials they might need for their little bundle of joy.

Out of this comes a very big question. When do you plan to give a baby shower for someone? Before the baby is born? After the baby is born? If before, how soon before? If after, how soon after?

The answer is that there is actually no set and proper time to give a baby shower. Traditionally in the US, baby showers are thrown a month or two before the baby’s delivery date. That being said, there are a few things to keep in mind when planning a baby shower.

1. Culture - Some cultures and religions believe that a baby shower should be given after a baby is born. A quick check about the beliefs of the mother and her family will go a long way in avoiding a baby shower faux pas.

2. Condition of mother - While we always hope that a pregnancy will be easy, the fact of the matter is that some pregnancies are difficult. If the mother-to-be is having serious problems, it may be best to wait until after the baby is born and the mother has had a chance to recover from her pregnancy before having a baby shower.

3. Knowing the sex of the baby - Even with today’s technology, many prospective parents choose to wait to find out what the sex of their child. If this is the case a baby shower after the baby is born may be better as guests will be able to bring sex appropriate gifts.

4. Mother’s preference - When all is said and done, what it really comes down to is what the mother to be would like. If she would like the shower before the baby is born, than it should be given before. If she would like it after the baby is born, than it should be given after.

When all is said and done, it doesn’t really matter too much when the baby shower is thrown. What matters is that the friends and family of the parents gather together to celebrate the birth of a very special child.
