How to store leftover wine

Learn a little about How to store leftover wine...

So you had a few friends over and after they left, there was a half bottle of red wine left. What should you do? Sit down and drink it? Throw it away? Keep it… Okay, so if you are a wine snob (or an alcoholic) you choose option A or B, but if you are like me, you hate to see good wine go to waste. So, here’s a little about how to store your wine.

Oxygen is really the killer when it comes to wine’s flavor. More than a few hours exposed to air and oxygen will alter the wines flavor, and not for the better. If you only occasionally have the problem of storing an opened wine bottle, simply cut the tip of the cork off to expose fresh cork, recork the bottle and put in the refrigerator. The wine should keep for a few days, though the quality will go down slightly.

If you are really die hard about storing your wine or if you find that you frequently have open bottles of wine to store, you might want to consider investing a wine vacuum. This is a device that stoppers the bottle and then the air is pumped out. The flavor of the wine will last much longer.

Whichever way you choose, I raise my glass to you. May you always have wine and never a half empty bottle.
