Pomegranates

Learn a little about Pomegranates...

Pomegranates are perhaps nature’s most difficult fruit to eat. The amount of time it takes to suck the luscious juice of each individual seed almost makes it not worth eating… Almost, but not quite. Pomegranate just tastes too good to just dismiss as worthless.

Pomegranates look almost like red oranges on the outside. The skin is rather thin, though rather leathery in appearance and texture. Inside the pomegranate are hundreds of bright red jewel-like seeds. The juice contained in the pulp of the pomegranate is quite sweet on it’s own and can be enjoyed on its own or used in recipes. You must be careful though if you are working with pomegranates. They will stubbornly stain nearly all porous surfaces.

Pomegranates are not native to the US and are really only grown commercially in California. Pomegranates are only available fresh in the US between September and December. Pomegranates are also extremely health beneficial. They are high in vitamin C, potassium and niacin. They are also packed with antioxidants, which help to stave off disease.

So this Thanksgiving, take a chance on a pomegranate. Sure they are hard to eat but your mouth and body will thank you
