Feeling a bit under the weather? Back twinges a tad? Maybe what you need is a foot massage. Yep, it’s called reflexology and can cure what ails you.
Foot reflexology is an ancient technique that uses therapeutic massage of pressure points to relieve problems else where in the body. For example, the inside of your foot on the arch relates to your stomach or the outside of your little toe relates to you shoulder.
The theory behind reflexology is that there are ten zones in our body where the energy flows from the top of the head down to the hands and feet. When an imbalance in the body occurs, the energy becomes blocked at corresponding points in the foot. When the energy becomes blocked, toxins build up creating havoc with certain parts of your body. So the mysterious back pain may actually be toxin filled pressure point on the heel of your foot.
The point of reflexology is to locate those blocked energy points and massage them in order to break down the toxins that have formed there. Once the toxins in your feet have been removed and the energy is allowed to flow again, you will feel better.
There are also reflexology points in the hands but not nearly as many, so mostly reflexologists focus in the feet.
Now before you laugh off reflexology as being just another new age, hippy fad, consider that foot reflexology has been practiced for thousands of years. Acupuncture looked kind of goofy as well, until doctors figured out it really worked. Reflexology might also be the same.
So next time you have a sinus headache that just won’t go away, or any other pain that just seems to linger, you may want to consider calling a local reflexology expert. If nothing else, you will end up with a relaxing foot massage out of it.
