A simple and flattering description of your loved one’s looks will go a long way.
Feelings - Nothing but feelings… Okay, I’ll stop with the singing, but the saying is true. It’s not a love poem unless there isn’t at least a little bit of writing about your feelings. How does this person you love make you feel? Again, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Keep it simple and you’ll be fine. Similes - The backbone of most poetry is simile.
Simile - Simile is where you compare one object to another. You should use this in combination with the two other parts. For example, “Your beautiful eyes are like forest pool.” or “My love for you is like a waterfall.” Original similes aren’t hard to come up with. Think of the most beautiful thing (beside your loved one) that you have ever seen and find a way to incorporate either looks or feelings. Even the line “Looking at you makes my blood run faster than a NASCAR race.” is beautiful if that’s how you really feel about them. Just be honest in your comparison and you will end up with a great love poem.
By the way, just in case you didn’t know, poetry does not have to rhyme. Just write what you feel and that’s all you need to worry about.

If you have really put your heart and soul into the poem and you have been honest in your expression of love, your poem will be the best thing your love has ever read. Don’t worry if it isn’t as good as something Shakespeare wrote.
