Learn a little about Understanding Astrology...

By Nikki Phipps

If the stars can affect the weather or plant life, why then can it not affect the lives of humans? Is this merely superstitious nonsense or could astrology possibly hold the key to our future?

Astrology has been studied for millions of years. Many people do not believe in Astrology, thinking that it is somehow tied in with the devil and evil occults. However, this is not true. Astrology has nothing to do with devil worshipping or even religion. Astrology does not affect or change religious beliefs. In fact, almost all religions share the belief that the way you live your life determines whether you go to heaven or hell. Astrology is simply the study of time in relation to man and life. It is about the interaction between the Planets (including the Sun and Moon) and the Signs. Astrology explains the energy in your life and its potential challenges and possibilities.

There are many different categories of astrology. Medical, business and stock market astrology are often practiced for health or financial reasons. Weather astrology is popular in some areas as is the study of politics and world events. The most popular type of astrology, however, is Natal, which analyzes people based on their time and place of birth. In the hands of the skilled astrological professional, this ‘science’ could be considered a great tool. However, like anything in life, there are cases of wrongdoing such as with the telling of false predictions for financial gain. Most of the time astrology is used as a way of helping others grasp a better understanding of themselves and their life path.

Most people only know about astrology from the horoscope. These forecasts are generally used for entertainment purposes. Horoscopes are said to be maps of the heavens for given moments in time, generally, the times of our births. Although many people from across the globe are born during the same month or on the same day, the chances are still slim that someone is ever born at exactly the same time and place, even with twins. A slight difference in the time of birth can dramatically alter one’s character and personality. With the use of the planets, the moon, and the sun, the mystery of the stars makes you the person you are or could be.

The signs of the zodiac, of which we are all aware of, begin with Aries and end with Pisces. Astrological signs can mark times of luck and opportunity as well as times of danger, sickness, and unfortunate events. Planets, including the sun and moon, represent different cosmic forces that affect our basic character traits and changing needs. At our particular date and time of birth, the planets are associated with a specific sign of the zodiac. Having a basic understanding of what each one represents helps when it comes to interpreting one’s horoscope.

“What’s your sign?” You’ve probably been asked this at some point in your life. This refers to your Sun sign and is determined by when you were born. For instance, I am a Scorpio. However, in order to have a more accurate reading, you have to delve deeper. Your rising or ascendant sign is determined by the exact time of birth and works with your Sun sign. The moon when you were born affects your unconscious emotional responses. Mercury indicates how you think or make decisions and the considerations you make beforehand. Venus controls how you express feelings and emotion, while Mars affects your sex drive, ambitions, and endurance. Jupiter tells of interests and values, and Saturn explains how you face responsibility and seek recognition. Your motivation, goals, and originality can be explored through Uranus. The final two planets, Neptune and Pluto, influence collective outlook and regeneration.

Ultimately, our astrological horoscope is nothing more than a guide to follow. We still possess human tendencies and are fully responsible for our own actions, exercising at all times free will.
