Technically, there are only eight traditional wedding anniversary gifts. The eight traditional wedding anniversary gifts are the first, fifth, tenth, fifteenth, twentieth, twenty-fifth, fiftieth and sixtieth.
For the first wedding anniversary, the traditional gift is paper. A card, a book or a photograph would be examples of this. I personally would like to add money. Hey, it’s paper.
For the fifth wedding anniversary, the traditional gift is wood. Some examples would be a new tree for your yard (to watch grow through the future years of your marriage) or furniture.
For the tenth wedding anniversary, the traditional gift is tin. These days, tin objects are pretty tough to find, so the acceptable modern alternative is aluminum. For something quirky, try presenting a year’s supply of their favorite soft drink or beer. For something a little more serious, give a new car.
For the fifteenth wedding anniversary, the traditional gift is Crystal. A fine wine glass set, a figurine from Swarovski or a lovely piece of crystal jewelry would fit here. If you are feeling really over the top, a crystal chandelier will bring joy for years to come.
For the twentieth wedding anniversary, the traditional gift is china. Gentlemen, this normally means a new dish set for your wife but there are alternatives if your wife is happy with her good dishes. Try china collectible figurines or even a trip to China.
For the twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, the traditional gift is silver. Maybe a silver set to go with those dishes from five years back, a nice little bit of jewelry or some decorative items for the home.
For the fiftieth wedding anniversary, the traditional gift is gold. Well, there is just no avoiding it now. You need to give the gift of jewelry. Gold necklaces, gold rings, gold cufflinks.
For the sixtieth wedding anniversary, the traditional gift is diamonds. Many people are lucky to make it to their sixtieth birthday, let alone their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Your spouse deserves that diamond. After all, they put up with you for all these years.
