Looking for a weekend shopping spree with scenery, sales and lots of open road? You need to check out the Route 127 Endless Yard Sale. It’s also known as the longest yard sale in the world.
What is this endless yard sale? It’s lots of fun, for starters. The entire Yard Sale is 450 miles long. It begins in Covington, Kentucky and goes down, down down through Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama, all along Route 127 (Which become Route 157 and 176 in Alabama) and ends in Gadsden, Alabama.
The Route 127 Endless Yard Sale has been around for over 17 years. It was created to try to draw back the traffic that had been lost to the major interstates in all three states.
The dates of the Route 127 Endless Yard Sale vary but the generally fall within the month of August.
So what can be found at the Route 127 Endless Yard Sale? Just about anything that can be imagined. Hundreds of vendors and residents pull out their good for this huge yard sale and set up shop along Route 127. Everything from antiques to discount merchandise can be found along the route. Chances are that if you are looking for something special, you can find it somewhere along Route 127.
Some things to keep in mind while you are shopping along the Route 127 Endless yard sale. Always wear your seat belt and use your turn signals. While this is a yard sale, driving is required and accidents will happen. Keep yourself safe and sound. Also, try to be a safe and considerate driver. You don’t want to be the cause of those occasional accidents. No break checks or U-turns when you see a great deal.
Also remember to pack water and snacks as Route 127 is a rural highway. Some stretches are purely residential. This combined with the fact that there may be traffic jams means that occasionally there may not be food for miles. This being said, I would not recommend that you pack your lunch or dinner. There are several excellent home cooking type restaurants along the route that you should try.
If you plan to make a weekend of the sale, you should book your lodging several months ahead of time as most of the motels, hotels and B&Bs along Route 127 are booked up several weeks before the Endless Yard Sale. Don’t leave your accommodations to chance, or you will be sleeping in your car.
