Learn a little about Chicago Cubs...

There are no fans like Chicago Cub fans. They are considered the most loyal and optimistic sports fans in the world. Is it because the Chicago Cubs are a winning team? No, it is quite the opposite. The Chicago Cubs are considered to be one of the unluckiest teams in the National League. Not a bad baseball team, just unlucky.

The Chicago Cubs play in the famous Wrigley Field. It is one of the smallest capacity stadiums in the United States but it is also one of the oldest still in use.

The Chicago Cubs started in the early 1870’s and helped form the National League in the 1876. At that time, the Chicago Cubs were called the White Stockings.

It wasn’t until 1906 that fans knew the Chicago Cubs as the Cubs. Of course, at that time they were also called the Colts, the Nationals and the Spuds. It was common in the early days of baseball for a team to be known by several nicknames. In 1907, the team officially changed their name to the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs won the World Series in both 1907 and 1908. This is the only two times that the Chicago Cubs have ever won the World Series. The last time the Chicago Cubs won the National League pennant was in 1945.

Some people claim that the Chicago Cubs are cursed and for no less than ejecting a billy goat from a World Series game in 1945, the last pennant won by the Chicago Cubs. Legend has it that the owner of the goat, Sam Sianis, had purchased a second ticket for the goat and had dragged the tethered goat into the game. He actually got the goat to his seats before nearby Cubs fans were complaining about the smell. He was thrown out of the game and as he was leaving the field, he muttered in broken English that “Never again will World Series be played in Wrigley Field”. And to this day, it hasn’t.

The Chicago Cubs aren’t without their heroes were “Iron Man” Billy Williams, Ernie Banks, Ron Santo and dozens of other excellent players have all played for the Chicago Cubs but the Chicago Cubs have not been able to do any better than a Division Title.

Chicago Cubs fans don’t lose hope though. They follow their beloved Chicago Cubs as closely as fans of teams that have won World Series galore. They are the epitome of faithfulness and devotion.
